Tutelary deities have their own room in every temple (Tibetan: gönkhang) to protect the Buddhist teachings and Buddhists themselves. They are addressed to assist on the path to enlightenment as well as to master life on earth.
Those who have not been initiated in the Buddhist teachings are strictly prohibited from entering; access is also denied to women.
