Thangka Tsangpa karpo (Tshangs pa dkar po)

In the center of the picture is Tsangpa karpo, who is classified among the worldly protectors and equated with Pehar. Thangpa karpo occupies an important position in the Tibetan Gesar epic. The Bon work gTsang ma klu 'bum calls Tsang-pa one who causes illness. Below left is his most important companion figure Dorje dragden, the "well-known thunderbolt". On the right is Tsiu marpo, who is also one of the worldly protectors. He is said to be the protector of Samye and thus Pehar's successor. Tsiu marpo is the leader of the warlike demons.
