This piece is part of a collection of 165 San stone engravings that the physician and “traveller” Emil Holub had donated to the Ethnographic Department of the Natural History Museum. For a long time, this collection was considered the highlight of the African collections. The engraving might depict a mythical figure or a shaman in trance.
