Russian merchants introduced the use of glass beads in the Arctic region in the 18th century. The blue, wound glass beads from China served as decoration on hunting equipment and everyday clothing. Larger quantities of Venetian beads were only available in the late 19th century. Chinese beads are mostly used today.
