The Embassy of Colombia in Austria, the Latin American Studies Association Austria (LAF), the Austrian PEN Club, and the Weltmuseum Wien have invited Juan Gabriel Vásquez for a reading of his works in Vienna.

Born in Bogotá, Juan Gabriel Vásquez studied law in Colombia and received a doctorate in Latin American literature from the Sorbonne. He is considered one of the most important contemporary narrators in Latin America. His literary work has been published in 16 languages and has won prestigious international awards.  

Vásquez achieved international success with his debut novel Los informantes (2004; The Informers,  2013). For El ruido de las cosas al caer (2011, The sound of things falling, 2013) Vásquez received the Premio Alfaguara de Novela (Alfaguara Novel Prize), the International Dublin Literary Award, one of the best-endowed literary awards in the world, and the Gregor von Rezzori. His novel La forma de las ruinas (2015, The Shape of the Ruins, 2018) was shortlisted for the 2019 Booker Prize. Last year he received the prestigious Vargas Llosa Prize at the Biennial of Literature in Guadalajara, Mexico, for his latest novel Volver la vista atrás. In 2019 he published his collection of short stories Canciones para el incendio (Songs for the Flames, 2021).
