Celebrate Tết- the Vietnamese New Year under the motto "Where the cat and the dragon shake their paws" at the Weltmuseum Wien! Tết, the Vietnamese New Year, is one of the most important and festive celebrations in Vietnam. It marks the beginning of the new year in the traditional Vietnamese calendar and coincides with the Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year. It is a time of joy, respect for ancestors, connection with family and hope for a happy and prosperous new year. Tết is a central part of Vietnamese culture and contributes greatly to the preservation of cultural heritage.

In cooperation with association Asiatische Gemeinschaft in Österreich and Weltmuseum Wien Friends, a varied free cultural programme awaits you in the Hall of Columns!

Experience the lively atmosphere of Vietnamese street theatre, presented by dedicated members of the Care for Vietnam association. The official opening will be introduced by Christian Schicklgruber, Deputy Director of the Weltmuseum Wien, and the President of the Association Asiatische Gemeinschaft in Österreich . A highlight of this opening will be the breathtaking lion dance performance by the Austrian Wu Shu Association.

Interactive storytelling presented by Care for Vietnam: learn about the history of the 12 signs of the zodiac, but with a focus on interpretations and representations in the context of today's cultural and social dynamics.

Enjoy traditional dances of the Vietnamese community in Austria, which present a multifaceted narrative of identity and cultural heritage.

Marvel at the demonstration of traditional Vietnamese martial arts by Vo-Vietnam-Vienna, an impressive display of skill and tradition.

Be part of this special event that offers space for reflection on cultural representation and interpretation, builds a bridge between cultures and visualises the diversity of the Vietnamese community in Austria!

This event is a co-operation of the Weltmuseum Wien with the Asiatische Gemeinschaft in Österreich Association and WMW-Friends.

For safety reasons, the maximum number of people in the Hall of Columns is limited.  For this reason, the entrance of guests must be controlled and stopped if necessary.
With a valid museum ticket, you can follow the event from the gallery on the mezzanine and the first floor, and visit the exhibitions.
