Votivplatte

20. Jahrhundert | Rudolf Leyden

As Virabhadra, Shiva cut off the head of his first wife's father out of anger because the latter had not invited him to a sacrificial ceremony due to his behavior. Although he brought Daksha back to life with the head of a goat, his wife Sati died of shame. On Shiva's right is Daksha with a goat's head. The exchange of the head causes a transformation of the opponent into a devotee of the god.
