Film Screening at the Votiv Kino de France – Science Fiction(s)
Science fiction is probably one of the most classic film genres, which has evolved in various facets over decades of film history. In celebration of the exhibition Science-Fiction(s) at the Weltmuseum Wien, Votiv Kino de France will be showcasing selected science fiction works monthly from September onwards, ranging from film classics to Afro-futuristic musical spectacles.
It is the year 2000 and Austria is still under occupation by the victorious Allied powers. After the newly elected prime minister promptly declares independence on 1 April, the country is accused of breaking the world peace. The Austrians must now prove that no danger emanates from them. A foray through history begins ... Science fiction in 1952 - commissioned by the Austrian federal government. Of all people, under the hand of a director who had made a career in the Reichsfilmkammer, the "image film", cast with a who's who of Austrian actors, was to convince the world community of its suitability for state sovereignty. An intergalactic peace mission that went down in Austrian film history. UFOs over Schönbrunn. Madness! (red)
