Drawing Arabic Architecture

Situated on a leafy hill in Granada, Spain, with the Sierra Nevada in the background, the Alhambra Palace offers numerous opportunities for a sketchy exploration of its architecture. It is considered one of the most important examples of the Moorish style of Islamic art, is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Europe and has been a World Heritage Site since 1984. After an introductory, highly visual lecture (30 minutes), we will capture its enchanting architecture in hand-drawn sketches.

After the workshop, there is the opportunity to visit the exhibition Qur'an in Europe together with a cultural mediator from the museum. The exhibition is dedicated to questions such as: What role does the Holy Scripture of Islam, the Qur’an, play in the history of European ideas? How has it been read and understood in Europe since the first translations in the Middle Ages? The exhibition uses original historical objects, contemporary works of art and media installations to illustrate the countless ways in which the Koran has been experienced, read and interpreted in Europe.
