On this tour of the Weltmuseum Wien's permanent collection and the special exhibition Tabita Rezaire. Calabash Nebula: Cosmological Tales of Connection, we focus on the diverse presence of female power as creator, protector and source of life.
We encounter figures such as Yemoja, an Orisha from the Yoruba tradition who symbolises water, fertility and motherhood; Yebaburo from the Amazon, who created the earth with her breast milk, Tonantzin, the Aztec mother goddess closely associated with the earth and fertility, and XiWangMu, the Chinese Queen Mother of the West, guardian of immortality and wisdom.
This tour offers insights into the diverse expressions of female spirituality and its role in different cultural contexts.
