7 pmHow was the Chinese New Year celebrated in China in 1960?
Special film screening with Bettina Zorn and Hanin Hannouch
To find out, join us for the first public viewing of a film from the collection of the Weltmuseum Wien. Thanks to the new digitisation of an exciting documentary film, you can see how the New Year's celebrations in China in 1960 took place both publicly and privately.
The Weltmuseum Wien has a rich film collection with 145 materials, including ethnographic research material and documentary films. Since it was donated to the Filmarchiv Austria for safekeeping in 2007, the collection has been gradually digitised in order to present it to the public and position it as an object of historical and critical debate.
You will be accompanied by the chief curator and East Asia curator Dr Bettina Zorn and the curator of the photo, film and audio collections Dr Hanin Hannouch to view the newly digitised film, which was originally produced by the Chinese company Pearl River Film Studio 珠江電影製片廠. You will also have the chance to discover historical artefacts associated with the celebration. At the beginning of this screening, the curators will offer you a short introduction and there will be a joint discussion following the film screening.
Duration: 90 min.
To participate in the event, all guests need a valid museum ticket (or an annual ticket, a KHM-Membership, a Kulturpass or a membership of the Weltmuseum Wien Friends).
