7 pmIndian Dance & Draped Pants
Performance – Who’s Wearing the Pants?
This evening will be a particularly colorful and diverse round dance with two very special forms of intangible cultural heritage from India: the art of draping Indian clothing and Indian dance. If you have always wanted to know how to wrap a pair of trousers from a long, unsewn piece of fabric (sari) and how to tie an Indian dhoti, and how these clothing styles fascinate in motion, then this evening is a must!
Classical South Indian dance will be presented by Natya Mandir Dance Company under the direction of Radha Anjali (Bharatanatyam), as well as Varshini Radhakrishna (Bharatanatyam) and Priyadershini Renjith (Mohini Attam).
A small fashion show with different sari draping gives an insight into the rich variety of wrapped trouser models.
Bollywood dance and dancers from the Kalangan Cultural Center and the Padma Dance Company continue with a cheerful and lively performance. A Bhangra performance by students from the Dance Beat Academy will delight with contemporary dance dynamics.
