10.30 amIndigenous Knowledge and Sustainability: Contemporary Perspectives
Guided Tour
This tour combines artistic and cultural perspectives that focus on sustainable practices and the protection of our planet. We will take a tour of the three current special exhibitions and focus on questions of sustainability, environmental protection, and the appreciation of indigenous knowledge systems as alternatives to the prevailing world view.
Between the poles of tradition and innovation, the exhibitions show how indigenous and local communities are using natural dyeing techniques, spiritual narrative, and modern technologies to reveal alternative ways of approaching nature with respect. The Colours of the Earth. Modern Textile Art in Mexico presents traditional Mexican dyeing techniques that are being reinterpreted and enhanced through modern approaches, with the sustainable use of natural resources playing a pivotal role. In Tabita Rezaire. Calabash Nebula: Cosmological Tales of Connection, Tabita Rezaire addresses, through her art, the spiritual connection to nature and the significance of indigenous cosmologies, which can be seen as an alternative to modern structures of exploitation. Indah Arsyad. The Ultimate Breath focuses on the consequences of climate change and environmental pollution and combines Javanese mythology with modern technology.
The guided tour offers an opportunity to critically reflect on the multifaceted perspectives on environment, culture, and sustainable practices and to discuss their significance for the present day.
