7 pmLina Morgenstern - The story of a rebel
Lecture by Gerhard Rekel
‘Lina despised the restrictions imposed on her by her parents and society. She looked for opportunities to expand her knowledge and was tormented by the thought that she might never get this chance.’ Lina Morgenstern’s achievements seem highly modern: As a Jew in Prussia, she founded soup kitchens, initiated over 30 associations to support women in need and helped export the Froebel kindergarten concept to England. Gerhard J. Rekel’s meticulously researched book provides an insight into the almost inexhaustible drive of a hitherto little-known exceptional figure.
Gerhard J. Rekel was born in Graz in 1965. He graduated from the Vienna Film Academy and received a British Academy nomination, a Biennale invitation, and the Japanese Screenplay Award for the comedy ‘Trauma’. He has written several screenplays for ‘Tatort’ and has directed science documentaries for ARTE, ZDF, and other broadcasters. Rekel has published several novels, including ‘Der Duft des Kaffees’. His most recent work published by K&S, ‘Monsieur Orient-Express’, received the ITB BookAward 2023 and has been translated into English, French, and Dutch.
