Welcome the Year of the Horse under the motto “The gallop of shared happiness for the whole family” at the Weltmuseum Wien! We will celebrate the Year of the Horse and Lunar New Year with friends from the Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese communities in Vienna!

Lunar New Year is one of the most important holidays in East and Southeast Asia, celebrating the beginning of a new year according to the lunisolar calendar. It is a colorful and joyful festival marked by family gatherings, ancestor worship, feasts, traditions, and hopes for a happy new year. In China, it is the most important festival (Spring Festival/Chūnjié), in Korea it is celebrated as Seollal, and in Vietnam as Tết.

Our celebrations include performances of the popular lion dance and other dances traditionally seen during the New Year festival, as well as presentations that shed light on the background and significance of the festival.

You will also have the opportunity to learn some basic lion dance steps or other dynamic dances that are usually performed during the Lunar New Year. No prior knowledge is required!

On this holiday, it is customary for people to wear their finest clothes. We therefore invite you to dress up as well, and will reward the best-dressed visitors with a small prize.

This event is the fourth edition of the Lunar New Year celebrations organized by the Weltmuseum Wien and the Weltmuseum Wien Friends Association. This year, we are receiving significant support from the Verein-Chuanmener as co-organizers.

We warmly invite friends of all ages and backgrounds to join our event and experience the essence of the Lunar New Year celebrations. Celebrate with us as guests of honor, and together we will bring ourselves good fortune!
