Sashiko – re:pair with Needle and Thread

Workshop with Karin Altmann & Christina Dörfler – A Glance at Pants – re:pair Festival

Sashiko is a Japanese embroidery technique that symbolises sustainability. Even though it has developed from a simple repair technique to a complex pattern technique in Japan, this workshop is not about technical perfection, but about the joy of independent repairing.

Try it out and bring your holey jeans with you! Under the guidance of Karin Altmann, each piece will be repaired, upgraded and turned into a statement against the fast-paced consumer and throwaway society of our time. All stitches are done by hand. No previous sewing or embroidery experience is required.

But beware: Sashiko is not only decelerating and meditative, it can also be addictive! Material available.

The workshop is part of the exhibition A Glance at Pants and takes place in the context of the re:pair Festival.

Duration: 3h
