7 pm“Scheherezade” - One Thousand and One Nights
By Parvis Mamnun
The fairy tale “Scheherezade” from 1001 Nights is the fascinating story of a young, clever woman who, night after night, tells stories to a misogynistic king in order to save her life. Hugo von Hofmannsthal: " Here the boldest spirituality and the most perfect sensuality are interwoven into one!... The most monstrous sensuality is the element here. It is in this poem what light is in Rembrandt's paintings, what color is in Titian's panels..."
Parvis Mamnun learned free storytelling from the storytelling dervishes in his native Persia. He studied at the Reinhardt Seminar, where he later taught the art of storytelling. He narrated 1001 Nights with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra at the Vienna Konzerthaus, among others. His performances are a feast of storytelling (Der Falter). “Die Welt” called him an ambassador of the Orient. He embellishes his stories with setar music.
