Theme day

workshop

To celebrate the opening of the new special exhibition Tabita Rezaire. Calabash Nebula: Cosmological Tales of Connection, we invited musicians and dancers who, like Tabita Rezaire, explore the themes of colonialism and the cosmos and place these themes at the centre of their performances.

Start your day with our Afro-Caribbean dance workshop with Karine LaBel, followed by a guided tour, a presentation in the mobile planetarium and, as a highlight, Kenyan DJ and sound artist Alai K will transform the columned hall of the Weltmuseum Wien into a powerful sound space between the Swahili Coast and global club culture from 4.30 pm.

Programme on Saturday, 20 September

12.30 p.m.: Guided tour: Female Power. About Creatresses and Goddesses, 60 min., Ticket: € 6

With Tabita Rezaire. Calabash Nebula: Cosmological Tales of Connection, Weltmuseum Wien presents the first solo exhibition of Tabita Rezaire (*1989) in Austria. In her work, the multidisciplinary artist, activist, and healer combines digital technologies with spiritual, non-Western, and indigenous knowledge systems. Through her artistic practice, she explores healing as a decolonial strategy and exposes how neo-colonial power structures continue to dominate our understanding of the cosmos.

The mobile planetarium will be located in the Hall of Columns at the Weltmuseum Wien between 19 and 21 September, with additional shows on 19 September at 3:30 p.m. and on 20 September at 2 p.m.
