Workshop for Children (3 – 6 years)
In this exhibition, you can see the results of a large-scale project carried out in 30 villages in Mexico. The artist Carlos Barrera Reyes worked with many women there. Together, they rediscovered old dyeing techniques and developed new ideas. Using special weaving devices that are tied around the waist, they wove colourful fabrics. These are used to sew huipiles – traditional dresses worn by many women in Mexico. In our workshop, you will learn how to spin and dye thread and weave it into fabric. The patterns on the fabrics tell little stories. At the end, you can design your own huipil and pattern!
