7 pmThe portrait panel ‘Orient’ in the collection of Archduke Ferdinand
Lecture by Danila Mayer
A participatory study at the KHM
Panel E “Orient” in the Coin Cabinet of the Kunsthistorisches Museum is part of Ferdinand II of Tyrol's portrait collection. It presents 34 rulers of the ‘Balkans and the Orient’. Danila Mayer investigated how these images, for which there is hardly any accompanying text on site, are perceived. To this end, she invited people to visit and interviewed them. In her lecture, she will discuss her research findings and also shed light on the portraits and their history.
Danila Mayer is a cultural and social anthropologist. In her many years of working with young people, she has developed participatory approaches, was part of the concept team for the Welt in Bewegung (World in Motion) room in the museum's permanent exhibition, and gained experience in guest services at the Kunsthistorisches Museum. She is also a founding member of the IUAES Commission on Anthropology of the Middle East.
