7 pmTonalli - Concert
Día de Muertos
In this concert, Tonalli will take us on a musical journey to celebrate the Day of the Dead of Mexico.
Tonalli is a musical ensemble founded in Vienna in 2023. Its main objective is to promote the musical diversity of Mexico. The name Tonalli is rooted in the Nahuatl language, meaning "heat and light of the sun”. Tonalli´s repertoire includes a variety of musical styles, including son jarocho, son huasteco, son de tierra caliente, and son istmeño, among others. These musical styles originated during the colonial period in Mexico as a result of the cultural melding between Indigenous, Spanish, and Afro-descendant populations. Consistent with this rich heritage, Tonalli's performances utilize a diversity of musical instruments from various Mexican regions and incorporate different styles of traditional dance. This combination of elements provides a unique experience, evoking the vibrant, multicultural, and mystical environments of Mexico.
