Creative (Mis)Understandings: Methodologies of Inspiration

Closing presentation in Weltmuseum Wien on May 20, 2022, 4:00-11:00 pm
an artistic research project lead by Wei-Ya Lin and Johannes Kretz
sponsored by the Austrian Science Fund (PEEK-FWF)

Address: Heldenplatz, 1010 Wien

The Artistic Research Project Creative (Mis)Understandings is based on a collaboration between poet-singers of the indigenous group Tao from Taiwan and composers and sound creators trained in the tradition of European Art Music. The project deals with inspiration, understood as mutually appreciative, conscious and justified artistic influence based on solidarity, and aims  to create strategies which on the one hand contribute to revitalizing Tao cultural practices in a sustainable way, and on the other hand redefine social roles of European, academically trained composers and sound creators.
As part of the "Long Night of Research", traditional Tao chants as well as a band of young indigenous Taiwanese musicians will be presented - in an extended happening - along with compositions and improvisations by team members transforming Tao songs into different contemporary contexts, complemented by sound and video installations. There will also be time for exchanges, meetings, dialogues with the audience, what may create a platform of sharing and encounters during this event.
