Japanese picture stories have a long tradition in their country of origin. In Europe or in German-speaking countries, mangas have been trendy since the 1990s at the latest. Typical features of mangas are big, shiny eyes and little text. After the course, you will be able to draw mangas and know the basics of character design and the structure of a comic page.

Ikuyo Hori studied education at Bunkyo University, Saitama, and took lessons in manga drawing; studied at the Opera School of the Vienna Conservatory, teaching singing, piano and drawing since 2003.

The course takes place in the context of the special exhibition Beyond the Future. Modern Japanese Calligraphy in cooperation with the Volkshochschulen Wien.

Material costs of € 10 are not included in the workshop fee and are to be paid to the workshop instructor at the beginning of the workshop. Please bring: Pencils (HB or B), sharpener, eraser, ruler (longer than 15 cm), dividers, markers, correction fluid and tissues.
