Children & Family

Children, parents and grandparents hear stories about exhibits and are invited to be active together. Depending on the subject of the museum tour, which playfully incorporates a lot of knowledge about the objects and room themes, participants paint, design, play, and improvise. Come and let us surprise you.

LesePunkt/FamilyPoint

A cozy reading area featuring a round table surrounded by colorful chairs. Books are neatly arranged on shelves against the walls. The space is well-lit, creating an inviting atmosphere for reading and studying.

Our new LesePunkt/FamilyPoint gives young and old a chance to take a little time out during their visit. The area is accessible to all free of charge and we invite you to linger, draw, or browse through the books selected by the education department – even without a museum ticket. You are also welcome to leave your pictures or messages on the walls.

Workshops & Guided Tours

Our workshops and guided tours for children and families offer creative and inspiring opportunities to discover the diversity of the world in a playful way. Whether on guided tours with babies, at KaleidosKids, in the Open Studio, or during the Summer Academy, each program invites participants to learn new things together, ask questions, and get involved themselves.

Inspired by the collections and exhibitions of the Weltmuseum Wien, children and adults explore different cultures, stories, and perspectives. In an open and creative atmosphere, they research, design, and experiment. This transforms the museum into a lively place for shared discoveries and unforgettable experiences.

Listen, Play, Dance – From the Amazon to Tierra del Fuego!

This journey takes us to South America: into the Amazon rainforest of Brazil and to the islands of Tierra del Fuego. We listen to mythical stories, learn about rituals, and try out dances related to growing up—such as the dance of the Sateré Mawé during the ant ritual. With the Selk’nam people of Tierra del Fuego, we discover the role of fright and surprise. Afterwards, we create a small grimace theatre and see who wins the prize for the scariest or funniest face. Each child designs an indiaca, a special ball originating in the Amazon, and tries it out straight away. At the end, something special is made together for the birthday child.
