Parking

Parking spaces for persons with reduced mobility are located in the short-stay parking area on Heldenplatz square in front of the equestrian monument to Prince Eugene and at the side entrance to the Kunsthistorisches Museum on Burgring.
 

Arriving by public transport 

U3 metro line: “Volkstheater” stop (“Ring” exit)

Get off at the “Volkstheater” stop. Arriving by train bound for Ottakring: Leave the carriage and head left, against the direction of travel. Arriving by train bound for Simmering: Leave the carriage and head right, against the direction of travel. Go towards the “Ring” exit. The tactile guidance system will lead you on the right to the escalator and on the left to the lift.

Take the lift at the end of the tunnel that leads towards “Ring”. Stop at the level marked with the “Ausgang” (Exit) symbol.

Leave the lift and go straight ahead towards the “Volksgarten” exit. To the left of the staircase and escalator you will find another lift labelled “Volksgarten”.

Take this lift to the “Ausgang” (Exit) level.

Leave the lift and go straight ahead for a few metres and then turn right. You are heading in the opposite direction to that of the cars on the Ring road.

Cross the green cycle path to reach the pedestrian walkway that runs along the wall next to the Volksgarten park and Heldenplatz square. Continue on the walkway along Burgring until you reach the entrance to the Burgtor, the gateway to the palace complex.

At the entrance to the Burgtor, there is a set of traffic lights. Cross the road straight ahead, along Burgring. Do not cross the Ring road! Continue straight ahead for about 50 metres. There you will find an open gate on your left.

Go through the gate. On your right is the entrance to the Weltmuseum Wien.

The Neue Hofburg building can be accessed via the two carriage driveways on the left and right. The main entrance to the museum can be reached without climbing any steps by using a platform lift. Two heavy doors have to be opened to enter the ticketing area. The Guest Service will be happy to help you.

D, 1, 2 & 71 trams, 57A bus: “Burgring” stop
Trams bound for Prater Hauptallee (1), Dornbach (2), Börse (71) or Nußdorf (D) and bus (57A): Terminus

Get off at the “Burgring” stop. You are on the correct side of the Ring road and will not have to cross any roads. Go straight ahead to the wall that runs along the Burggarten palace garden. To reach the pedestrian walkway you must cross the cycle path marked in green.

When you are in front of the Burggarten wall, turn left and head along Burgring.

Keep going along Burgring for roughly 120 metres towards Heldenplatz square. On your right will be an open gate to Heldenplatz square. Go through the gate. On your right is the entrance to the Weltmuseum Wien.

Trams bound for Stefan-Fadinger-Platz (2), Friedrich-Engels-Platz (2), Kaiserebersdorf (71) or Absberggasse (D)

Get off at the “Burgring” stop. You now have to cross the Ring road.  After getting off the tram, turn left and head to the intersection. At the intersection, a traffic light system will guide you across the Ring road.

On the other side of the road, cross a cycle path marked in green to reach the pedestrian walkway. This runs along the wall next to the Burggarten palace garden and the Neue Burg wing of the palace.

When you are in front of the Burggarten wall, turn left and head along Burgring.
Keep going along Burgring for roughly 100 metres towards Heldenplatz square. On your right will be an open gate to Heldenplatz square. Go through the gate. On your right is the entrance to the Weltmuseum Wien.

46 & 49 trams; 48A bus: “Ring, Volkstheater” stop

Get off at the “Ring, Volkstheater” stop. Leave the bus or tram and head right, against the direction of travel. On the right of the escalator is a lift. Take the lift to the “U” level.

Leave the lift and go straight ahead towards the “Volksgarten” exit. To the left of the staircase and escalator you will find another lift labelled “Volksgarten”. Take this lift to the “Ausgang” (Exit) level.

Leave the lift and go straight ahead for a few metres and then turn right. You are heading in the opposite direction to that of the cars on the Ring road.

Inclusive access to the Neue Hofburg building 

The Neue Hofburg building can be accessed via the two carriage driveways on the left and right. The main entrance to the museum can be reached without climbing any steps by using a platform lift. Two heavy doors have to be opened to enter the ticketing area. The Guest Service will be happy to help you.

The special exhibition areas on the ground floor can be reached without climbing any steps by using a lift. The same applies to the exhibition spaces on the mezzanine floor and first floor. The lift has Braille and has the following dimensions: 89 cm door, 142 cm cabin depth, 162 cm cabin width.
 

Physical obstacles present in the building 

The Neue Hofburg is a historic building, so a few obstacles must be expected when visiting it.

There is no tactile guidance system in the Neue Hofburg building.

The entrance doors to the permanent collection area on the mezzanine floor and first floor are heavy and have to be opened manually. Inside the exhibitions, there are glass vestibule doors for climatic reasons that also have to be opened by hand.

The special exhibitions on the ground floor are inclusively accessible through the hall of columns via the passageway located in the cook café & bistro.  Here too, however, there are glass vestibule doors that have to be opened manually.

Unfortunately, the Imperial Shop cannot easily be accessed independently. Please contact the Guest Service in the ticket office or at the ticket inspection point in the hall of columns. Someone will accompany you to the Imperial Shop.

We recommend that you visit the Neue Hofburg with a companion.

Ticket office and prices (entrance area) 

Please redeem your ticket at the ticket office in the entrance area.

Blind visitors and a companion have free admission to the museum. People with disabilities, people with a disability card and wheelchair users and a companion have discounted admission. If the corresponding official ID card is marked with a “B” or contains details of a companion, the companion will receive free admission to the museum.

Cloakroom (entrance area) 

The cloakroom lockers for wheelchair users are located on the left and right of the ticket office. You will need to insert a 1 Euro or 2 Euro coin to close the locker. This will be ejected again when you open the locker.
 

Café & shop (raised ground floor level) 

Both the cook café & bistro and the shop area in the hall of columns can be reached without climbing any steps using a lift.
 

Toilets

Wheelchair-accessible toilets are located on the raised ground floor to the left of the cook café & bistro, on the mezzanine floor to the left of the entrance to Hall 28 and on the 1st floor to the left of the entrance to Hall 40. There is also a wheelchair-accessible toilet in the events area.
 

Wheelchair hire 

Wheelchairs can be hired free of charge (please make a reservation one day in advance at guestservice.wmw@weltmuseumwien.at).

Walking sticks are available to visitors; please ask at the ticket office. Reservations can be made one day in advance at guestservice.wmw@weltmuseumwien.at.
 

Assistance animals 

The Neue Hofburg house rules permit visitors to bring assistance animals upon presentation of a corresponding official ID card.
 

Seating

The permanent collection area of the Weltmuseum Wien has ample seating in every exhibition room.

On each floor there are folding stools to carry. These can be found at the entrances to the special exhibitions and at the grand staircase in front of the respective entrances to the permanent collections.
 

Reading magnifiers 

Reading magnifiers with an integrated LED light can be borrowed from the reception desk in the foyer.

Headphones with induction loop 

Headphones with an induction loop can be borrowed free of charge from the ticket office in the entrance area. These headphones will connect to your hearing aid via Bluetooth.
 

Bright hours 

Every first Saturday of the month, between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., the “bright hours” lighting setting is switched on in the permanent exhibition. This gives our visitors the opportunity to experience the museum with the usual muted lighting before 3 p.m. and then after that to discover the exhibition rooms in a brighter ambience. This lighting setting, especially for visually impaired people, was developed in collaboration with the Hilfsgemeinschaft der Blinden und Sehschwachen Österreichs (Austrian association in support of the blind and visually impaired).
 

Hofburg Info-Center 

Admission to the Hofburg Info-Center is free of charge. For visually impaired people, there are tactile reliefs for some of the objects exhibited.

Access to the Info-Center is either via the main entrance to the Neue Hofburg or, accompanied by the Guest Service, via the Imperial Shop.

Inclusive offerings at the Weltmuseum Wien

On one Tuesday every month, we offer an inclusive tour, alternating between a tactile tour for visually impaired and blind visitors and their companions and a tour with sign language interpretation (ÖGS/D) for deaf and hearing-impaired people. On one Thursday every month, we hold a workshop called “Es geht um die Welt“ (It’s about the world) for people with disabilities and their companions.

If you do not belong to one of these groups of people, but still want to get to know the museum together with one of these groups, please register by telephone.

Tactile tour

For visually impaired and blind visitors and their companions.

On selected Tuesdays, from 3 p.m. to 4.10 p.m.
Dates and the respective topic can be found on the calendar.
There are no tours in July and August!

Duration: 70 min.

Participation: free

Inclusive offering at the Ephesos Museum Ephesus – city of one of the wonders of the world

Everyone has heard of the mighty Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, which is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World! Austrian archaeologists have been digging and researching in Ephesus since the late 19th century, revealing one of the most important former Roman cities on the eastern border of the Roman Empire. The finds excavated in what was once “the pearl of the Middle East”, which are displayed at the Ephesos Museum, offer visitors the unique opportunity to study ancient Roman architecture close-up. Temples, baths, a theatre and private houses showcase the elegance and refinement of the culture of the time.

Inclusive offering in the Imperial Armoury The Age of Chivalry – Traditions and Ideals

The Kunsthistorisches Museum’s Imperial Armoury is one of the best-documented collections of its kind in the West; it comprises suits of armour and parade arms as well as hunting and sporting weapons. This is the place for anyone who is interested in how noblemen from the late Middle Ages to the Baroque spent their time. A source of particular admiration are the countless examples of sixteenth-century tournament armour; it is unbelievable how well people were able to move despite wearing this iron attire. Selected pieces of armour may be touched and tried on.
