Altar, Buddha

Combination of carving and fretwork, covered with high-gloss, gold-colored metal-plastic foil, set with red glass stones and partially painted with red lacquer paint. The statue represents the most important Buddha statue in the country, the Mahamuni statue in Mandalay. The striking gold and red look is an artificially exaggerated expression of the great esteem in which the original is held. Acquired at the northern ascent of the Shwedagon.
