The gibbon head, decorated with goat hair, was originally worn by headhunters as a chest ornament. Many myths tell of the close relationship between humans and apes. Decorated monkey heads also played an important role in the rites accompanying headhunting, but they were always inferior to human heads in terms of their symbolic value.
