Drum Figure

Only few examples of such polychrome, drum-bearing figures which came to the West at the end of the 19th century have been preserved in ethnographic collections. They were all from the Loango Coast while their original context of use is unknown. Their depiction is possibly related to proverbs and they might have been employed in the context of burial festivities.
