Necklace

before 1963 | Norbert Mylius, jun.

Ancient trade relations have left their mark on North African jewellery. Extensive trade routes from India, the Middle East, and Europe began transporting beads to the region in the 16th century. Millions of industrially produced beads from Europe were sold to North Africa in the early 20th century. They were small, colourful, easy to process, and came in standard sizes, which proved to strike a chord with the population and soon replaced many local materials.
