Offering, Bai Sri

The object comes from a complete altar of a spiritual healer, Mrs. Mo Toi Phun-Khasem in Banphet village, Bumnetnarong district, Chaiyaphum province in northeast Thailand. She called the altar the "Tamnag" (palace of the spirits). Bai Sri (บายศรี), lit.: "auspicious rice" are offerings to increase the Khwan. Khwan stands for the concept of "life energy", which is restored for the patient in the ritual. Bai Sri are donated by patients for the ceremony and remain at the altar.
