Protective hand with eye
before 1983 | Peter Wolfgang Schienerl
The raised hand with outspread fingers is universally understood by all people, regardless of language and culture: "Stop!"The protective hand and eye are inextricably associated with each other, in particular when it comes to defending against the evil eye, the envy of others. Material barricades, a symbolic eye or a repelling hand, should deflect destructive effects and secure the continued existence of one's own family. A Turkish house blessing of the palm of a hand with inscribed eye promises well-being and protection against the evil eye: "Allahın dediği olur"– "God's will be done."
