Thangka Mahakala
In the center of the thangka, the Buddhist tutelary deity Mahākāla is depicted in his four-armed appearance. He stands dancing on the reclining body of a demon and is surrounded by an aureole of flames. Tsong kha pa, an important Buddhist reformer, is depicted directly above Mahākāla.
Despite the Buddhist figures, the swastikas in the floral decorations of the frame are left-handed and can therefore be seen as a symbol of the Bon religion.
