Transportkiste

um 1915 | Fritz Willfort

Fritz Willfort is held captive in an officers' prison for six years in Russian Turkestan. He is allowed to move with relative freedom and comes to know the land and its people. He buys language textbooks and learns Russian, the local Turkic languages, and Tajik (Persian). He visits bazaars, villages and tea houses and collects souvenirs, photographs and postcards. He keeps a diary in which he records his experiences as a prisoner. He manages to preserve these possessions in a small transport chest and brings them to Vienna.
