Njola Impressions Kiteezi

29 May - 11 October 2026

In the new installation Kiteezi by Ugandan artist Nabukenya Allen, rubbish becomes a language of renewal. The starting point for this is a devastating landslide at the Kiteezi landfill, the most important waste disposal facility in the city of Kampala.

A person walks on a pile of garbage, wearing an outfit made of various materials. They carry a black object on their back. The sky is overcast, highlighting the contrast between the waste and the figure.

About the Exhibition

In August 2024, the landfill collapsed in a devastating landslide, destroying homes and claiming lives. Yet, out of this tragedy, a story of resilience began to unfold. Boda boda riders – Kampala’s motorbike taxi drivers, often misunderstood and marginalized – emerged as unexpected symbols of hope.

From this movement of transformation arises Kiteezi. The installation invites us to think about what society throws away – in order to find creativity in resilience and dignity in survival.
