Birth of the Buddha

3./4. Jahrhundert n. Chr. | Johann Anger

While walking in a beautiful garden, the Buddha's pregnant mother, Mara, touched the branch of a beautiful tree. The Buddha then emerged from her side without causing her any pain. Next to Mara stands the god Indra, who receives the boy in a cloth. Behind him, the Indian god Brahma holds his hands up in prayer. A female servant supports the woman giving birth.
