The complex coding system not only told us about the wearer, but also about his lineage. The central stripe shows that a completed cycle of merit festivals was performed in two successive generations. Only a warrior was allowed to have such a central stripe woven into his body cloth. Thus two codes overlap here - that of the feasts of merit and that of warrior status.
