Chief Tupua Tamasese Lealofi I from Samoa

ca. 1900 | Johann Schild

Many of the photographs depict people from distant lands. The question arises whether he made these journeys himself, or only purchased the photos. Some of the photos originate from the studios of Charles J. Kleingrothe and C.B. Nieuwenhuis. On this picture is written, "Tamasese, Samoa". The picture comes from the studio of Thomas Andrew and represents Chief Tupua Tamasese Lealofi I from Samoa, in around 1891. He was chief between 1891 and 1915.
