"Emma Harbour in Padang"

Padang was the administrative capital and at the same time the harbour of province of Sumatra Westkust, which counted amongst the most economically valuable regions of the colony of the Dutch East Indies. Western Sumatra exported a large amount of high-quality coffee and other agricultural products. One of the largest coal mining regions of the colony was also located in the highlands of the Minangkabau.
