Group of wax figures in traditional costumes from Leksand, Dalarna, Sweden

around 1867/after 1873 | Konstantin Danhelovsky

The photograph of wax figures created by the sculptor Carl August Söderman (1835-1907), dressed in traditional costumes of Leksand (Dalarna), Sweden. These sculptures were exhibited at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1867, in the Swedish and Norwegian sections. In the image, three figures are depicted from left to right: a man, a woman, and a child (girl). The photograph is taken against a backdrop of a plain screen or wall. On the floor the plate on which the dolls are standing can be seen. The photograph is black and white, hand-colored, and mounted on the branded passe-partout of the Eurenius & Quist studio. Across the bottom edge of the front part of the passe-partout, there are inscriptions 'C.A. Söderman, Skulpt.' and ‘Leksand (Dalarne)’. Anastasia Lishnevskaya
