Moment (Rahat Saeed)
1995 | Brigitte Neubacher
Sitting at the front of a river,
River passing
Passing slowly
Moment to moment
Moment is complete
deep sweet and silent
a conversation
Moment to moment
Passing slowly
Rahat Saeed
Rahat’s intriguing and expressive canvases are true depiction of some of his most exciting and emotional experiences and moments.
His justapositioning of varied images and elements, intricately worked out textured surfaces and use of bold palette create strong imagery and exciting compositions which tend to provoke sense of curiosity and freshness of vision. He shapes his perception in simple forms and images but each composition of Rahat is deeply conceived and strongly knitted. His confident handling of mixed medium and collage technique makes his ordinary composition impressive and forceful.
His colors are mostly brilliant and bright which could lead to disaster but his mature handling of palette adds more meaning to his perception and conveys the depth of feelings and emotions. The reds, oranges, blues and blacks all blended well, create an atmosphere of mystery and enigma and invite viewers to find meanings hidden behind each color and stroke. These bright colors do not go with Rahat’s personality but he submerges them in such a way that instead of screaming and
shouting, the colors layers serene and subdued impression and dreamy atmosphere.
His colors go well with his subject matter and give strength to his message. The newsprints, photographs and pieces of paper
are knitted in such a way to form a collage that the canvas retains its aesthetic element and apparent beauty. .
