Pectoral ornament
Before 1902 | Johann Anger
Jewellery was not only decoration but also of symbolic significance to the Naga. The right to wear certain jewellery had to be earned. It was both an external indication of tribal membership and an internal sign of rank. This pectoral ornament could only be worn as a mark by those who had either taken a head themselves or at least participated in a successful headhunt.
