Schnitzerei (Modell)

In the rear, innermost area of the Morung, numerous wood carvings adorned the walls and posts, providing a pictorial backdrop to the Naga storytelling tradition. There are no definite explanations as to why such erotic depictions were made in the men's houses: Ethnological interpretation sometimes suggests a link to fertility thinking, while Naga themselves told us that this was to keep women away from morung. Today, all erotic depictions have been removed, the Baptist "filter" seems to have taken effect.
