Thangka Manjushri
17./18. Jahrhundert | Hans Leder
The depicted Bodhisattva Manjushri is revered as the embodiment of wisdom. The world tree grows out of the middle of the world and connects a three-tiered universe. On the lowest level, offerings are made to Manjushri by two water deities, on the middle level Manjushri acts as a bodhisattva for the benefit of mankind, and the highest level forms a celestial sphere reserved for the highest meditation experiences. The symbol of the tree comes from shamanistic ideas.
