Lamak Ornament

Lamak

um 1935 | Helene Potjewijd

Lamak are hung up in the morning in the temple and because of their attractiveness invite the ancestors to visit the temple. A few days later they are transformed into wispy material which is simply discarded. The time-consuming and complicated production of a lamak finds its completion in a single moment - the moment of the presence of the ancestors. Afterwards, the sacrificial strip has fulfilled its purpose and becomes meaningless.
