Ceremonial basket

Ceremonial baskets were never used to carry objects, but were rather displayed during headhunting ceremonies. The decorative and symbolic elements convey the importance and social prestige of the wearer. Here too, headhunting and the "power of the heads" are at the center of the attribution of symbolic content. The number of wooden figures stands for the number of enemies killed; a monkey's head takes the place of a human head, so to speak.
