Vase

12th-13th century | Alexander Otto

Chinese, Indian, and Arab merchants followed the monsoon winds and directed their ships back and forth between the Asian mainland and the Indonesian island world. One of the results was the development of active relations between China and the islands. Chinese communities were founded along the coasts of Sumatra and Java. Lots of Chinese ceramics were imported both for them and the local population.
