Lamak Ornament

Lamak

ca. 1935 | Helene Potjewijd

As early as 1928, Spies collected lamak motifs. The fleeting nature had to be banned, the transitoriness wrenched out. The message of the lamak consists in the fact that the power of a piece is present only in that very moment in which its creation has found its fulfilment. Afterwards, this object loses all meaning and is simply withered material. Spies immediately began to copy down the motifs of the lamak and to organise them.
