Sokoto

These trousers with their shimmering silver lurex sheen and sophisticated checked pattern of pink warp and weft stripes are made of plain cotton fabric around the waist area. This is not only due to economy, but also comfort. The waistband with the drawn belt strap fits snugly against the skin, absorbs perspiration, and can be replaced if necessary. The trousers are part of a men’s ensemble in the Hausa tradition, to be worn with three other opulent pieces of traditional costume made of the same fabric, some of which are additionally decorated with salmon-coloured embroidery.
