Thangka

19. Jahrhundert | René Nebesky-Wojkowitz

The five Tathagata Buddhas Ratnasambhava, Aksobhya, Vairocana, Amithaba and Amoghasiddhi hover from left to right above a stupa in an idealized landscape. In them, the primordial Buddha emanates at the level of the "body of delight", where they can be recognized with the help of advanced meditation techniques. Below them, four guardian gods watch over the Buddhist teachings and their followers. The narrative scenes below show a procession on the left and the homa offering on the right, with which every religious ceremony begins; it is dedicated to the god of fire, Agni. At the bottom, Mahakala appears in his six-armed form, flanked by worshippers.
