Buddha, Scenes from the life of Buddha

3./4. Jahrhundert n. Chr. | A. K. Süß-Lindert

In the right-hand scene, Buddha sits in a meditation posture, having attained the insight that liberates him from the cycle of rebirths. The two kneeling figures next to him ask the Enlightened One to spread his knowledge for the benefit of all living beings. The other scene shows Buddha with his right hand raised in a gesture of protection, while with his left hand he calls upon the earth goddess to witness his actions. Here, too, he is surrounded by two Brahman worshippers.
